Was super tired after the photo scavenger hunt and having been out to the pub until 4am on the Friday night, so, as I had the house to myself I decided to finish up Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood on xbox.
I received AC: Brotherhood in the mail about 4 weeks ago, but having been in Hamburg then busy, then still having to play AC 2, I was only about halfway through. I get games from Boomerang Rentals and while I pay for the two game a month package I rarely get through one (note to self, reduce subscription).
Regardless, I completed AC: Brotherhood on Sunday finally, but it did end up feeling like a bit of a chore, despite it being the most varied of the Assassin’s Creeds. The first Assassin’s Creed, quite correctly, drew ire at being very samey and quite boring. The second addressed that and gave players much more to do and Brotherhood again built on that to give us too much to do.
Actually I don’t think it was so much the fact there was too much to do (you can ignore most of it), simply that the story was intensely boring. The retaking of Rome from the Borgias completely fails to build on the overarching story of Eden in any significant sense and was just milking the franchise if you ask me.
AC: Revelations keeps us with Ezio rather than gives us a new character (boring) and with Desmond in a comea doesn’t seem as if it’s going to advance much in the real world either.
If they don’t bring around a modern day Assassin’s Creed for the next one I’m pretty sure it’s going to have jumped the shark as a series and I’ll stick with renting them.
