So, it was a colleagues leaving do at Barrio Central last night, however when we got there it was rammed with the sorts of people that go out in Soho on a Thursday. Absolutely wall to wall and I couldn’t hack it, so I made my apologies and left.
My intention was just to head home, however I found myself wandering up to Oxford Circus and decided to go to HMV and ended up buying some doovdes.
HMV near Oxford Circus is pretty big and that did mean it took me about 20 minutes even to find the documentary section, by which time I’d already browsed a lot of the £3 DVDs. Going from looking at a bunch of doovdes at £3 to £15 – £20 documentary DVDs and I’d already reconsidered my shopping list.
I did however manage to get a few on my Top 50 Documentary list. I picked up Touching The Void, Super Size Me and Waiting for Superman along with a doc I remembered from when it was on Channel 4, The Boy Whose Skin Fell Off.
I also bought Into the Wild, which I have vague recollections of going to the cinema to see and actually getting a ticket for it, but then somehow not seeing any of it. I think I perhaps saw a different film instead. Son of Rambow is supposed to be quite good and missed it at the cinema, so picked that up.
Finally, before you think I’m super highbrow, I bought Highlander: Endgame, which I fully expect to be dire, but I loved the first Highlander movie when I was a bit younger and have seen the other (terrible) movies and some of the TV series. Finally I got Defenders of the Earth: The Necklace of Oros. I don’t really know why I bought that (though I do have some older cartoon DVDs already) apart from the theme song and I’m thinking about doing a pub quiz (like my photo scavenger hunt) with a cartoon theme song music round 🙂
