I first discovered Rockaoke at Punk nightclub in Soho a couple of years ago and have been a couple of times since. I believe the band have since parted ways with Punk (which isn’t a bad thing, as it’s a shitty club with shitty staff) and now perform every other Friday at Archangel in Kensington.
I’d never been the Archangel before and managed to get myself lost by blindly following my phone’s GPS directions (an increasingly common occurrence) but soon met up with everyone and we headed in.
I’m still not drinking but wasn’t going to let that stop me and soon put my name up for a few songs.
Unfortunately that evening also happened to have a few parties in, so was quite busy and also had a Meetup group – Active Karaoke In London!
Needless to say the singers were pretty damned awesome including this girl, who sang a fantastic rendition of Creep.
I wasn’t on great form anyway, so got in an early performance of 500 Miles on my own, despite being there with another 2 Scotsmen, poor show lads. I hung around until about 23:00 before I got too sober (or was everyone else getting too drunk) and wandered home.
Still a good night, even without a drink, and I did fall a little bit in love with the compere, Kirsty Crawford.
