Discovered Current TV today and watched it for most of the day.
Fantastic channel (Virgin 155, Sky 183) from what I’ve seen so far, though that could have a lot to do with their series on the 50 best documentaries at the moment.
I watched Exit Through The Gift Shop on Sunday and then this week has Gasland, Jesus Camp and King of Kong, and as we’re only up to the top 30 there’s even better documentaries to come!
Morgan Spurlock’s presentation and follow ups on some of the documentaries as well are top class.
The rest of the channel is a bit hit and miss.
HIT: The Buried Life is 4 guys who have a lost of 101 things they want to do before they die (Wikipedia tells me it’s 100, but I’m pretty sure I saw #101 today ‘Take a romantic carriage ride with your best friend’). While their list might not be the most amazing things you may ever want to do they also help make something on someone else’s list happen. It’s sort of like Jackass for nice guys.
HIT: Dining With Death is interesting and about ‘unusual’ food around the world. Insects, reptiles and vegetables are all covered and it shows what people eat in the rest of the world. While it’s not really discussed during the program, if people were able to get over their squeamishness about eating some of these things we’d have a much more sustainable food source that’s high in protein. Perhaps it will encourage people to look into it.
MISS: What Did I Do Last Night. Basically follows somebody going out and getting smashed. I can scarcely work up any excitement about people I know getting trollied and putting their pics on Facebook, let alone a stranger.
Still there seems to be a strong mix of decent programming on the channel and I’ve already set the box to record a lot of what’s coming up this week.
